If you are yet to check out Ma Pa Me on Little Stanley Street, we suggest you change that this year!
A modern take on the guilty pleasures of Asian family cooking, the restaurant is a passion project for classically-trained Nusa Dua Chef Alfan (Alfie) Musthafa. “Ma” refers to his grandma and “Pa” to his grandfather who inspired his love for cooking and entertaining. The “Me”, well that’s Alfie who brings to the cooking all the finesse of his training along with a love of a well-stocked cocktail bar.
At Ma Pa Me you’ll find nostalgia for Asian home cooked meals in a menu that is modern and filled with guilty pleasures. Add to this a cocktail list that is ready to bring the party, and you have the makings of a great night out!
While there is a distinct Indonesian flavour to many of the dishes, it also hints at Thai, Chinese and Japanese inspired dishes.
Many of the dishes featured on the menu are traditional celebration dishes, cooked on special occasions, or in the case of Alfie’s favourite, Good Son Nasi Goreng, as a reward. There is also an incredible take on rendang curry lovingly titled 'Birthday Beef Curry,' sitting next to modern favourites like grilled Spatchcock Chicken over charcoal with sweet chilli soy, Chicken Bao with pickled daikon and Pad Thai with roasted peanut, fermented soybean and tofu.
Every dish is prepared with the critical eye of Alfie’s Ma and Pa in mind, using only the best local ingredients available, while the sauces and curries are all made from scratch with broths simmering for two days to produce maximum flavour and enjoyment.
Ma Pa Me can be found on Little Stanley Street and with a menu that has something for everyone, we suggest it’s best shared with friends over late night cocktails.
