The Winter Solstice is just around the corner (June 21, in case you missed it) and South Bank’s dining scene is the ultimate way to celebrate. Whether you’re after a slow evening under the stars or a table full of winter warmers, here’s where to dine when night falls early.
The Jetty
As the sky darkens early, settle into golden hour at The Jetty. Sip on cocktails and graze your way through their Modern Australian menu. Our pick is the 200g eye fillet reef and beef with potato rosti, king prawns, greens and scallop cream sauce. The perfect excuse for a slow, moody date night.
OTTO
With the city lights twinkling and the river glistening, OTTO is pure winter magic. Their mafaldine puttanesca with confit tomatoes, capers, olives, anchovies, basil and buffalo stracciatella is ideal for soaking up the longer evening and indulging in a little seasonal luxury.
Ole
Solstice gatherings call for shared feasts and Ole knows how to bring the party. Dive into their tapas menu with your crew or warm things up with the mixta paella loaded with chicken, king prawns, semi-curado chorizo, cherry tomato and saffron rice. Don’t skip the red sangria.
Popolo
The cool change calls for comfort food, and Popolo delivers. Their slow braised black angus beef cheek ragù tossed through pappardelle and topped with grated pecorino is practically made for cosy winter nights. This one’s best enjoyed with a glass of red and a riverfront seat.
Poca Madre
When the longest night hits, so should the flavour. Poca Madre’s birria quesataco is stuffed with slow roasted brisket, queso fresco and sticky bone broth. Add your favourite margarita and you’ve got a seriously tasty winter warmer.
River Quay Fish
As twilight lingers, get cosy by the riverside with a fresh seafood hit. The crispy skin barramundi with mashed potato, broccolini and lemon is our top pick for an elevated take on a winter classic.
South Bank is serving serious solstice energy this season.
