What better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than to get to know the amazing Woman behind one of South Bank’s most beloved cafés! We are of course talking about Fara the owner of Denim Co.
We sat down with Fara to discuss all things café life, working at South Bank, and her fave menu item to recommend to customers.
What three words would you use to describe yourself? I would describe myself as straightforward, firm, and a realist.
Where did the dream to start a café star? It all started after my sister and I traveled through Europe. We come home feeling super inspired from seeing retail venues that put fashion and hospitality together. We saw an opportunity to open a boutique café combining fashion and coffee and the rest is history. That’s a bit of a fun fact that we use to sell denim and other quality basics. It’s also where the café name comes from.
If you had to pick a favourite menu item what would it be? I am a big fan of croissants and eggs benedict. They are my two fave dishes and so I thought of the idea to combine the two. My dish recommendation to customers is without a doubt, the croissant benedict. It’s a must-try!
When did the doors to Denim Co. first open? We’ve been at South Bank for a long time. We opened the café 23 years ago back in 2001.
What do you love most about being at South Bank? I love the sense of community; we have very loyal regular customers who have been coming to the café for the past 22 years, and we love hearing the stories and memories they have had with Denim Co. over the years. I feel very fortunate to have such wonderful customers.
What's your daily coffee order? My go-to coffee order is a double shot flat white with oat milk.
