5 Minutes With Phat Sauce!

Sunday Social is back in all its winter glory, which means it’s time to pull out that picnic rug, book a hamper and get yourself to South Bank!

To kick off this Sunday’s festivities, we sat down with Phat Sauce to discuss all things chords, choruses, and community! We assure you; their music is as awesome and eclectic as their name...

Tell us a bit about yourself? Where did it all start? Phat Sauce started as a passion project with a group of musicians who met at university back in 2016. Suddenly we found ourselves playing at big parties, weddings, and corporate events. Our infectious energy seemed to carry throughout our network of friends, and their grandmas, aunties, and dogs liked what we could offer. Before we knew it the calendar was full and Phat Sauce was alive!

What do you love most about playing a Sunday Social session at River Quay Green? The Quay to a great Sunday Social session is creating a chill yet upbeat vibe. We love seeing people enjoying their walks, we love seeing people appreciating some food and drinks, and we love seeing families out together. It’s a privilege to provide the soundtrack to the community enjoying their lazy Sunday afternoon. It’s great to be outside in the breeze right in the heart of Brisbane.

What is your favourite song in your setlist? Toothbrush by DNCE – people may not recognise the song by its title, but they always end up singing along by the second chorus. We all love the band, and it’s such a vibe.

How do you describe the music that you make? Everything we play has a bit of extra cheekiness attached. We love choosing great songs from current charts to the classics. Every now and again one of us will throw in a spicy chord or play a funky rhythm that makes us all smile.

Do you have any words of advice for someone trying to break into the industry? Be professional but don’t take yourself too seriously. Be kind, be happy, but value your product. Be as versatile as you can, take lots of opportunities, and work really hard. Most importantly, have fun along the way.
