Calling all cheese lovers and wine connoisseurs! The day that celebrates both is almost here - July 25th, for those wondering! There's only one way to partake in the festivities and that’s with copious amounts of this heavenly combo, of course! To help make your celebrations memorable, we’ve compiled a list of our fave spots to indulge in a cheese-laden dish and a crisp glass of vino.
Popolo’s Quattro Formaggi Arancini and Sav Blanc
Popolo's quattro formaggi arancini balls are an absolute must-try. Featuring a blend of creamy mozzarella, sharp parmesan, tangy gorgonzola, and nutty fontina, they’re a cheese lover’s dream. Served with truffle-infused mayonnaise and crispy sage leaves, they pair perfectly with a glass of Italian Sirch Sauvignon Blanc, which offers refreshing notes of citrus, grapefruit, apple, plenty of minerals, and a hint of grass.
Ahmet’s Pide and Chardonnay
The pides from Ahmet’s are legendary, and for National Wine and Cheese Day, you can’t go past the lamb steak pide. It's loaded with shaved lamb meat, capsicum, onion, tomato, mozzarella, and parsley. Wash it all down with a glass of Marty’s Block Chardonnay from South Australia, featuring tasting notes of white peach, apple blossom, almond meal aromas, and hints of toast, vanilla, and shortbread.
Vici’s Pizza and Pinot Grigio
It would be rude not to indulge in the ultimate cheese-loaded pizza, the Margherita, on such an occasion. Pair this delish wood-fired pizza with a glass of 2023 Corte Giara Pinot Grigio from Veneto, Italy.
The Jetty’s Baked Camembert and Rosé
The Tassie Baked Camembert at The Jetty is a must-try. Served with house pickles, fig paste, aged cheddar, pita, sourdough, and an optional drizzle of honey, this dish is pure cheesy perfection. Only made better with a glass of French rosé - we recommend the Chateau Peyrol.
Baba Ganouj’s Saj and Sparkling.
The garlic cheese saj (freshly baked Lebanese bread) from Baba Ganouj is the perfect cheesy indulgence! Filled with three cheeses, haloumi, feta, mozzarella, and topped with garlic sauce, it pairs beautifully with a glass of sparkling or rosé.
